History

Terhorst Manufacturing had its beginning in 1926 when Willis and Harvey Terhorst arrived from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to build wind-generated power plants they designed. Willis had a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and Harvey was an electrical engineer. Another brother, Steve, and their physician father, made the move with the brothers. Everett Amundson, former company president, began working at the plant as a young boy in 1935; he also grew up in a house adjacent to the plan. When Amundson retired in 1995, he sold the business to three managers: Bradley Weber, General Manager; Ron Martin, Molding Manager; and Jim Fraley, Tooling Manager.

When rural electrification began moving west, the need for wind-generated power diminished and was eventually eliminated. Following WWII, the plastics industry was booming and the injection molding process became a natural avenue for Terhorst Manufacturing to compete for a share of the market.
Whereas early plant production was focused on machining parts, including building the machine itself in some cases, it was now becoming necessary to expand with the improved technology and modern equipment.

Now, more than 50 years later, products from Terhorst Manufacturing are shipped all over the United States and Canada. Major Terhorst Manufacturing customers include 3M, Case Corporation, Ford New Holland, Lucas Aerospace, Nott Company, Morris Industries, Bush Hog, Lite Form, International, Ag Belting, Inc., Brandt Industries and Flexi-Coil, Ltd.
The physical plant has expanded from one small shop to a 33,000 square foot facility housing approximately 30 different tooling machines, 27 molding machines, a variety of accessory items and the capability to take an inventor's idea from computerized engineering to completed piece production. A free-standing 6,000 square foot building was added to the complex in 1993 just to store materials and products.

The longevity and success of Terhorst Manufacturing is evident in the expansion and growth of the company's production capabilities and plant facilities, all of which can also be attributed to satisfied customers and dedicated management.
